SEASON 4 PLANS

There was much anticipation amongst Arcadians for the upcoming 1.18 update and with it the beginning of AthosCraft Season 4. We were brainstorming, suggesting, voting, discussing, and planning what to do for a while, and on December 4th 2021 we finally began building in the new amazing Caves and Cliffs landscapes.

For season 4, we continued with the principles from Season 3 where every player should be able to do and build what they want under the basic rules that we have in place.

We set up a new world, survival, hard mode with fire tick off and 1-player sleep. Players were asked to stay within +/-3000 blocks from 0 to help keep the file size manageable and to give players the close proximity that makes it easier to visit each other.

Map seed for Season 4: 598045832

There were only 3 dedicated areas in the world from the beginning of the season:

  • A shopping district in a cave
  • A mini-game district in a relatively flat area
  • A welcome area for new recruits around spawn (Athos Academy)

Community size

We would like a small active community and therefore recruited accordingly as the season progressed and players became inactive or left the server.

In-game scoreboard

There were mixed feelings of the in-game scoreboards that we have tried out in Season 2 and 3: Player Death Counter and Player Time Counter. We therefore decided not to have a scoreboard in Season 4.

Player activity was still monitored by last login from the console, so that the recruitment team could assess when it might be time for a new recruitment round.

Add-ons

Again, we wanted to keep the game vanilla-ish with only minor modifications. The add-ons from FoxyNoTail, which were implemented in Season 3, were popular and voted to continue in Season 4.

These were the player and mob heads, mini blocks and armour stands and markers addons. The player heads (from current and past members of AthosCraft) and mini blocks will be made available from the wandering traders, who will each have a limited selection available. Player heads will also still drop when you die.

Jango found out that it is possible to use the Structura build template tool by temporarily disabling some of the add-on features on AthosCraft and installing the Structura addon on their own computer.

The Spectator Mode add-on from FoxyNoTail was unfortunately not made available for camera accounts on AthosCraft, as it would not work together with other addons without a lot of work involved whenever the addons are updated. The same goes for other add-ons we have been looking at.

Invisible Item Frames

We implemented invisible item frames in Season 4, making it easier to create scenes with items. The non-glowing item frame were invisible, whereas the glowing item frame were still visible. The crafting recipe remained the same for both frames.

Connected glass

Glass panes remained vanilla – but glass blocks had the connected glass feature and clear glass blocks were virtually invisible. This allowed players to use the panes to obtain the framed look if they wish, and also for use of glass blocks to create the fog effect and use clear glass as invisible barriers.

Paintings

The standard Minecraft paintings were replaced with pictures of scenes from the previous AthosCraft seasons.

AthosCraft S4 Final Exam

Season 4 had an academy, where all new players were given an introduction when they first joined AthosCraft. As a consequence, why not end the season with a Final Exam! This was one of those standard exams, where, if you get a question wrong, the Redstone AI will lower you into lava…
Do you want to see if you could have survived the Redstone AI’s test?
